A needle has been found inside a punnet of South Island-purchased strawberries.
A police spokesperson says the fruit was bought at a Geraldine supermarket in South Canterbury on Saturday morning.
It comes almost exactly three months after needles were found Australian strawberries at St Luke's Countdown in Auckland.
Timaru Police are investigating.
It is the second incident of its kind in New Zealand in recent months.
