Lyttelton port workers will strike for 24 hours after talks today to improve safety and pay failed

The stop work will take place in two weeks.

The Rail and Maritime union organiser, John Kerr, says today was supposed to see the 22nd meeting since collective bargaining started in July.

But he says management didn't even join them in the room, let alone change position.

The union claims management has no fatigue management policy as it moves towards a  24/7 port operation.
