Road detours, traffic jams, and technology problems at the new bus interchange in Christchurch are taking their toll on bus drivers.
The interchange has been open less than a month, but drivers have already had 13 crashes at the multi-million dollar anchor project - labelled as 'driver error' by ECAN.
ECAN public transport manager David Stenhouse claims that with 18,000 busses through the interchange already, the incidents aren't a bad figure.
However the Amalgamated Workers Union believes the accidents are down to faulty technology and a lack of training.
Assistant secretary Lindsay Chappell says there have been complaints from drivers every day since it opened.
"A lot of the bus drivers are very nervous and having the added problem of putting up with the stresses of Canterbury roads. It's a constant battle and a constant stress that they have to go into the bus exchange."
