Christchurch heritage advocates are worried the city will lose links with its past, if two historic buildings are demolished.
CERA is considering requests to demolish the Public Trust building in Oxford Terrace, and the Bishopcourt building and chapel in Park Terrace.
Historic Places Canterbury deputy chair Ross Gray says a knock-it-all-down approach isn't the best way forward.
"If heads got together and thought how could we save these buildings, council, government, CERA, owners and insurers, there's no doubt whatsoever that buildings like that could be saved."
Gray says heritage buildings have been getting bulldozed since the February 2011 earthquake.
"When you see that there are so few heritage buildings remaining, it's really painful to see the same process going on when it needn't."
Both buildings were designed by Cecil Wood in the early 20th century.
