EQC apologetic about handing claims to private insurers

The Earthquake Commission is apologetic about another 200 claims which are likely to be handed to private insurers.

It has settled 98 percent of its claims in the Canterbury Home Repair Programme.

However, it still anticipates around 200 claims are yet to be classified as over-cap.

EQC CEO Ian Simpson says four years on it's not a great outcome for those customers.

"There could be technical complexities. We have to wait until we got all the engineering reports before we fully understand the costing.

"There could be people who have been in dispute with us, but we got some information that persuaded they were right, and we're moving over cap."
