Controversial iPOP! auditions hit Christchurch today with over 200 hopefuls trying out for their shot at fame.

The International Presentation of Performers held free auditions world-wide, promising those selected a trip to LA to meet industry professionals at a week long show-case.

But this is where you'll need over $10,000 to get to the event.

The organisation has said the money's purely to cover the week of workshops and accommodation.

Rumours of a scam have been swirling since the Auckland auditions but this didn't stop some young girls who thought it was the best way to get to Hollywood.

Some are criticising the organisation for misleading the public with advertising offering chance to be a Disney star, despite Disney denying any involvement.

Parent Rebecca Johnstone says while she won't pay the money she's happy for her children to audition.

"Feel a bit sad that some parents may not know what's going on and I feel like there are some kids that are probably being led down the garden path. My kids aren't one of them."
