Strong feelings are expected today at a meeting on plans for a large quarry on the outskirts of Christchurch.
Fulton Hogan wants to open a 170 hectare quarry bounded by Dawsons, Curraghs and Jones Roads in Templeton.
It would be used for up to 40 years.
A substantial anti-quarry movement is building amongst residents, and
Wigram MP Megan Woods expects some difficult conversations will be had.
"People are concerned. They are concerned for their health, they are concerned for their homes not being worth what they are used to. Politicians need to be able to front up tough meetings. We are there to go and confront the issues that are concerning in people's lives."
It will be the second time this week that the residents will meet with politicians, and while Woods is open to discussing their concerns, but she making no promises.
"They've got concerns about some of the side effects of the quarrying that's happening near their homes and they want to discuss what their options are. I'll hear what they have to say and then we'll work through what the solutions are open to those residents."
