The new Primary Sector Council is looking to the new future, but not all are happy about this.
Innovation and looking to the future may, however, come at the cost of experienced farmers.
The council was announced yesterday by Minister of Agriculture Damien O’Connor, and President of Federated Farmers Katie Milne has already announced their support.
She says she has received a bit of feedback from farmers who feel some people aren't represented on the panel.
"There's no one really there who's a dairy farmer. Julian Reign, he does have dairy farms as well as horticulture interest so it is sort of covered, but not in the purest sense of the way farmers look at things."
They decided to go with people who were going to test, challenge, and push.
"Sometimes people who have been halfway around the block have had got good experience, have probably worked, doing a lot of innovation and experimenting on there way through and they might have already tried a lot of the stuff that is going to be talked about."
