Aucklanders will get to have their say on whether businesses should open on Easter Sunday.
Mayor Phil Goff believes it's an important matter that people are quite passionate about, and it's not just about religion - but also about family time.
Goff said consulting Aucklanders on whether to keep the status quo - or establish a policy allowing trading - was the council’s unanimous decision today.
Community consultation will start next month, with findings reported back to the council in August.
A final decision is expected in February 2018.
