One person has been seriously hurt as police mount a big operation in West Auckland.
The seriously injured person was treated by paramedics near a BP station in Te Atatu South, while police have also separately locked down a street in New Lynn.
Multiple cars have been seen rushing to the New Lynn area, while the police helicopter circled overhead.
A spokeswoman for St John said paramedics treated the patient with serious injuries on Great North Rd in Te Atatu South and have since taken them to Auckland Hospital.
An abandoned vehicle has been photographed at the scene.
Media outlet RNZ reports armed police were also swarming swarmed the carpark of a mall in the area and surprised the people inside one of the cars.
According to the report, startled shoppers said two police cars approached a vehicle parked at a New Lynn Mall and officers slowly advanced towards it with weapons drawn.
Police have also said they are responding to another linked incident in New Lynn.

Armed police shut down the street just before 10am as he returned from a walk with his daughter, the resident said.
“We were just doing our normal Saturday routine and all of a sudden there’s two police officers came down the (neighbouring) driveway with rifles asking us to hide,” he said.
Later he heard police using a microphone to address a person in a nearby home, down the road.
“They were on the loud speaker saying, ‘We have armed police, please come out with your arms up,” he said.
He said there were still armed police in the driveway next door and what looked like detectives out the front of his home, however, the street had been quiet for the last 30 minutes.
“Police were called at about 9.40am today, and are working to establish the circumstances leading to the incident. One person has been taken to hospital with serious injuries,” a police spokeswoman said.
Another eyewitness in New Lynn saw four cars speed past her close to Rankin Ave.
The Eagle helicopter has also been circling overhead.
More to come.
