Auckland's Kopupaka Reserve has been awarded Landscape of the Year 2016 at the World Architecture Festival (WAF) in Berlin.
The reserve, designed by Isthmus Group, is a 22-hectare landscape made up of five stormwater wetlands, and is located in Westgate.
"It's fantastic that Auckland's design is being recognised in an international arena," said John Dunshea, Auckland Council's Development Project Office general manager.
Koupupaka is an ongoing project, but two of the key parts of the network (pond two and three) have been constructed and it is these areas that have been awarded.
The WAF awards are the largest international gathering of architects, and aims to showcase the best architecture of the last 12 months.
The finalists were selected from 58 countries.
