Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown has confirmed the city's State of Emergency will be extended for another seven days.
Despite this, he expects it will be lifted early.
Brown's decision comes after he received advice from the Civil Defence Emergency Management this morning.
The Mayor is also apologising for mistakes made last Friday night.
He says he dropped the ball, was too slow to be seen and communications, including his own, weren't fast enough.
Brown says the priority ahead of the long-weekend is to ensure that Aucklanders are safe, well-informed and well-supported.
