There are calls for the government and Auckland Council to rapidly overhaul the East-West Link plan.
The $1.85 billion dollar road was placed under review after the election.
The government now says it will still go ahead - only at lower cost.
Onehunga Enhancement Society chairman Jim Jackson says the original route needs to be scrapped.
"It was going to split Onehunga in half," he says
"They were going to alienate the port of Onehunga and sever a connection between Onehunga and the Mangere Bridge town centre."
The Onehunga Enhancement Society says it will still support the East-West Link plan, provided changes are made.
Mr Jackson says the link should actually go "from Onehunga to Highbrook", with a tunnel under Mount Richmond and a tunnel under the Tamaki River.
Under the previous Government's plan, the link would've connected State Highway 20 at Onehunga, and State Highway 1 at Mt Wellington.
