The Auckland War Memorial Museum has confirmed it is to meet Green Party MP Chloe Swarbrick after the museum was lit up in the Israeli colours on October 15.
A spokesperson for the museum confirmed that it received an Instagram direct message from the MP on the same day, which stated, "Kia ora. Could you please let me know who made this decision and as such who I should contact about it?"
The museum spokesperson said that because of the volume of messages it got during that time, it wasn’t seen until October 18, and a phone call was made to Swarbrick.
“A meeting between chief executive David Reeves and Swarbrick is being set up, date to be confirmed."
The museum earlier apologised for lighting up the museum in support of Israel, an act that, at the time, drew dozens of pro-Palestine supporters who “blacked out” the building’s lights in response.
On November 7, the one-month anniversary of the Hamas attacks in Israel, the museum was lit in the Palestinian colours.
Auckland Museum has told Newstalk ZB Plus it was made aware of the unauthorised plans to cover the lights with red and green cellophane at 3pm on Tuesday.
"Some staff members had seen it on Instagram and shared a photo of the post with the security team," a museum spokesperson said.
"No one at Auckland Museum had any correspondence or communication with the group at any point."
The museum said it contacted police when it learned of the plans to check officers knew and to "let them know what measures the museum would be taking to ensure the safety of staff, visitors, taonga and our heritage building".
Auckland Museum is open late on Tuesday nights.
