A new local documentary has shined a light on the competitive shearing scene in New Zealand. 

She Shears follows five female shearers as they prepare to compete in the biggest and most prestigious of shearing competitions, the Golden Shears.

The documentary highlights how shearing is an art as well as a sport. It also highlights the growing number of women taking part in the sport. 

Director Jack Nichol and star and world record holder Emily Welch joined Francesca Rudkin to talk what drew them both to the project and what it's like to see female shearers on the big screen.
