The National Party is onboard with the Government's decision to eradicate Mycoplasma bovis, rather than manage it.
A hundred and 50 thousand cows will have to be destroyed as a result.
MP Mark Mitchell told Mike Hosking now everyone has to get together, work hard to make sure we can eradicate the disease.
"We trade globally and there's always different threats that are going to emerge, and we need to be very, very vigilant in terms of protecting our borders."
Mitchell says there will be other incursions in the future, so we have to be bullish and forward-leaning in dealing with them.
Labour MP Stuart Nash says we're a trading nation and this is important for our brand.
However, he says it's more important for the health of our dairy herds.
"The loss in productivity of just managing this as opposed to eradicating was estimated to be well over a billion dollars."
