There are calls this morning for a culture change at sporting events after a young woman was subjected to groping and homophobic slurs from punters at the Black Caps' ODI match against Pakistan in Wellington earlier this month.
The 19-year-old alleged her and her girlfriend were abused while security guards stood by and did nothing.
New Zealand Cricket has since tightened security and apologised.
Otago University associate sport management professor Sally Shaw told Mike Hosking insists it is unacceptable that drunks behave like idiots and make it unpleasant for others, and there's still a way to go to make spectating a safe environment.
