Contractors say the way risk is managed in the construction sector is unsustainable.

Ebert Construction is the latest building company to go into receivership, leaving 15 contracts in jeopardy.

Specialist Trade Contractors Federation president Graham Burke told Mike Hosking there are pressures from clients and it's a very competitive industry.

"It's not just a New Zealand issue, companies in Korea and the UK have suffered the same fate, including the largest construction business in the United Kingdom."
