Australian journalist Ali Gripper spent three years following the work of eye surgeon, Dr Sanduk Ruit.
Dr Ruit was trained by famed Australian Fred Hollows and spent his life helping thousands of the world's poorest and most isolated.
He saved the sight of more than 120,000 people.
Gripper spoke with Mike Hosking about her book, called The Barefoot Surgeon, which followed Dr Ruit's career.
