Reports are coming out of the APEC summit in Vietnam, that ministers have reached agreement in principle on the trade deal.
Charles Finny from government relations consultants Saunders Unsworth, said it will be a new agreement even though the wording might be identical to the old one.
He told Rachel Smalley it will have to go through domestic processes like the original TPP, but bits of it will be suspended.
"These are rules that are being suspended pending the United States joining it at some point in the future. The actually commitments as I understand it, that individual countries are making, are unchanged."
