Boaty McBoatface has won an online poll seeking a name for the new polar research ship for the UK's Natural Environment Research Council.
It received more than 124,000 votes - four times more than second choice.
The final decision now lies with Research Council's chief executive, Duncan Wingham.
Some say he faces a dilemma - choosing between the credibility of his organisation, and the overwhelming burden of public opinion.
The man who first suggested the name RSS Boaty McBoatface, BBC radio presenter James Hand, says it gathered a life of its own - and he actually voted for the RRS David Attenborough.
That was the fifth favourite name.
The top five results:
RRS Boaty McBoatface - 124,109
RRS Poppy-Mai - 34,371
RRS Henry Worsley - 15,231
RRS It's bloody cold here - 10,679
RRS David Attenborough - 10,284
