The coroner has made a number of recommendations following the death of a Fairlie woman, who was killed when she collided with a house being transported down State Highway One.
The house was being moved between Christchurch and Timaru in December 2013, when Patricia Robertson, driving in the opposite direction, crashed into the house at full speed.
Coroner Christopher Devonport was satisfied the house was being moved in accordance with the permit granted by the NZTA, but felt the conditions of the permit needed to be reviewed.
He recommended the speed limit for house-moving vehicles be reduced, the number of pilot vehicles increased and the use of sound emitting waning devises be investigated.
A comprehensive review of the Land Transport Rule and over dimension permits is already taking place.
