Blustery and wet weather around the country last night has helped keep a lid on fireworks mayhem.
Fire services in the north and central regions have reported a quiet night just two days before Guy Fawkes, with no major incidents.
A vacant house went up in flames in Westport, but otherwise things were calm.
Neither the north nor central regions reported any serious fires.
Southern district shift manager Andrew Norris says there were about a dozen small flare-ups around Christchurch likely caused by fireworks, but nothing difficult or dangerous.
"Considering the conditions, with the rain and everything we've had over the last couple days, it's a good result really. If we'd had dry weather, I'm sure it would have been different."
He hopes that people would have been responsible if the conditions had been drier.
