A rise in pornography could be feeding rape culture in our schools.

The New Zealand Association of Councillors wants compulsory programmes around consent to be rolled out nation-wide.

Councillor Sarah Maindonald said there's been a rise in students' access to pornography - with 90 per cent of boys viewing porn online before they're 16.

She said it's concerning that porn is informing youth about sexual relationships.

"It's a lot more problematic because its not sex shown in context of a loving relationship its often quite aggressive, and often not equal in terms of the powerbase."
