Public-private partnerships could be used to restore an Auckland theatre and build a cycleway across Auckland Harbour Bridge.
Auckland councillors will vote this morning on put up to $15 million towards the restoration of St James Theatre.
They will also hold a crucial vote on whether to establish a partnership with HRL Morrison and Co's Public Infrastructure Fund to build the controversial SkyPath.
St James Theatre
The council would fund St James through a loan, but will suspend the loan if the theatre becomes publicly accessible.
It would eventually waive the loan if the theatre is transferred to non-profit ownership.
However, the St James restoration hasn't secured full funding and it may be reliant on further Government and council funding.
Auckland Sky Path
The SkyPath would be funded by the fund and by initially charging users.
However, the council will underwrite minimum revenue and pay out if the fares and sponsorship don't meet expectations.
At the end of the public private partnership, ownership of the SkyPath would be transferred to Auckland Council.
The SkyPath has been widely supported across the region, but faces strong localised opposition and is still subject to two legal appeals.
