They once carried handbags and wore high-heels but today women from the New Zealand police force will be showing young people what it means to be a woman in the force in 2016.
Officers will be at an expo at Auckland's Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT) today, showcasing the various roles women can have in the New Zealand Police.
Organiser Constable Alex Fanene said it's a chance for families and future recruits to ask questions - with search and rescue, dog units, and even members of the Armed Offenders Squad attending.
Constable Fanene said putting on the old uniforms - with handbags and heels - just shows how much has changed now that everyone wears the same uniform, and does the same job, regardless of gender.
She said there will be demonstrations by the Armed Offenders Squad, dog units and maritime units - and will give future recruits a chance to ask questions about being a woman in the Police in 2016.
They'll have their weapons and gear, and the dog squad will show-off their canine's capabilities and high level of training.
The event will run from 10am to 4pm today.
