Two New Zealand Consulates in the United States are helping the family of a Hastings man killed in San Francisco.
60-year-old William Tims of Hastings was one of two pedestrians hit on the corner of Stockton and Geary Streets, in Union Square.
The pair were hit by a Harley Davidson being ridden by a 32-year-old man.
Mr Tims was killed instantly, while the 53-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
A Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokesperson said the New Zealand Consulate General in Los Angeles, and the New Zealand Honorary Consul in San Fransisco are providing assistance to the family.
Mr Tims - known in his local community of Haumoana as Bill - was a long serving volunteer fire fighter.
He was the senior station officer at the Haumoana Volunteer Fire Brigade.
In 2001 he was awarded the Haumoana Gold Star for 25 years of service.
He stood down in 2014.
