A 13-year-old tramper has been rescued by helicopter after hurting her foot during a tramp in the Nelson Lakes National Park.

The girl was injured while tramping with her family at Upper Travers Hut late yesterday afternoon.

After realising she would be unable to walk out herself, a family member tramped to St Arnaud village this morning to raise the alarm.

The Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter flew in to the hut this afternoon.
