A review has found the HPV vaccine is highly effective against cervical cancer.

The vaccine is the most effective in adolescents and younger women.

The director of the Immunisation Advisory Centre, Associate Professor Nikki Turner, says the vaccine has also significantly reduced the risk of pre-term birth.

If there are improved birth outcomes the effectiveness of the vaccine will prove even more impressive.

Turner says young women internationally deserve access to this vaccine.
