A day of controversial Members' Bills.
A Bill that would legalise medicinal cannabis for terminally ill New Zealanders has been drawn, at the same time as the Bill that would allow for assisted dying.
Green MP Julie Anne Genter said her Bill would allow doctors to support people's choice to use medicinal marijuana - and make it affordable.
"There are chronically and terminally ill people in New Zealand who are suffering right now. They could get relief from that suffering but they are made to be criminals and I think that this law change is sensible and overdue," she said.
Genter said it would make it legal for those suffering a debilitating condition to use cannabis with the support of a doctor.
She said this will help relieve the pain and suffering of so many New Zealanders.
"I think we need a quick law change to help people.....who could benefit from the medicinal aspects of cannabis," she said.
