The Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage wants to bump up funding for the Te Matatini Festival, after commending organisers on a job well done.
The massive kapa haka event, which receives more than $1 million in taxpayer funding, has been held in Christchurch over the past four days.
Around 20,000 people flocked through the gates.
Maggie Barry says if organisers want more money - they'll probably get it.
"They're putting together the business plan, they're going to be talking to the officials at ACH about how to grow and how to develop even further."
Meanwhile, organisers say the huge crowds are a reflection of the talent demonstrated by the top kapa haka groups both in New Zealand, and Australia.
CEO Darrin Apanui says the event will be remembered for years to come.
"It's been a successful show in many ways. Not only in terms of broadcast, but in seeing the best kapa haka on stage and also in which our people have been well hosted by our local people."
Te Matatini is held every second year.
