The body of a woman has been found near the Waikato riverbank last night.

Hamilton Police said the death was being treated as unexplained, at this stage.

The body was discovered by a member of the public off an area of the Waikato riverbank, near Ann St.

Authorities are now working to find next of kin and formally identify the woman.

Police have not released any other details about the body.

An investigation has been launched.
