One person has died after the campervan they were travelling in caught fire in an accident on a Matamata Road.
It’s believed the caravan caught fire as a result of an accident shortly after four this afternoon on Tauranga Road.
Fire service northern communications centre shift manager Daniel Nicholson said it sent two fire trucks and a water tanker to the scene after an alert was made at 16:05.
“When we arrived the campervan was fully involved and we were notified of one person that was inside.”
Unfortunately he said crew found the person was deceased.
He said fire crew were still at the scene and it was unclear if the fire had been extinguished.
Police and ambulance are also at the site of the accident.
