UPDATED 8.56pm: Police and ambulance have cordoned off a shop in suburban Auckland this evening following a death.
Witnesses said officers had arrived at the Mt Albert Superette around 7pm and had now taped it off, sparking concerns of a robbery.
Witness Chris said a body has now been removed from the site.
"The police have cordoned off the section of the shopping centre with the police emergency tape, so they're blocking all pedestrian access along there."
Shopkeeper Buchireddy Bommineni confirmed a man had died, however it was believed to be a medical incident.
He said the man and his friend had come to buy goods from the store, and the man had collapsed outside and was unable to be revived.
The store would be closed while police finished their investigation, Mr Bommineni said.
Police are investigating the death.
