Woman in Nia Glassie case back in court

Publish Date

A woman who played a part in the abuse of Rotorua toddler Nia Glassie has been in court again, this time on driving and shop-lifting charges.

Oriwa Kemp was one of five people jailed for their role in the death of the three-year-old in 2007.

She's been convicted and discharged at the Manukau District Court this morning for driving while forbidden.

She's also been convicted and sentenced to 40 hours community work for stealing a sweatshirt and a pair of boots from Hallensteins.

Kemp said through her lawyer that she did it to survive but that she accepts responsibility.

Community Magistrate Lemalu has also sentenced her to 12 months intensive supervision, saying it will help her turn her life around if she's prepared to change.
