Police are trialing video interviews of family violence victims, so they don't have to leave their own homes and be taken to a police station.
The pilot is taking place in in Palmerston North, where 55 frontline officers are using their police-issue iPhones to take statements.
Police Commissioner Mike Bush said in his latest blog that the staff taking part in the scheme have found it helps victims.
He said it's because they can be videoed in their own words and in their own homes soon after a call-out, rather than being taken to the station for a written statement.
The trial will continue until July so a number of cases can go through the courts.
On average police attend a domestic violence incident every five minutes.
