Police have been kept busy with two separate firearms incidents in Lower Hutt.

Members of the Armed Offenders Squad are currently speaking with the occupants of a house in Harrison Crescent, Avalon.

They were called to the street earlier this morning after a man was seen carrying a firearm into the house.

Police have now entered the property and say no firearms are present.

Meanwhile an unrelated police pursuit has ended with the seizure of several firearms and arrest of a man on the motorway through Lower Hutt.

Police began pursuing the car at the bottom of the Ngauranga interchange, believing firearms to be inside the vehicle.

They continued north along State Highway Two, with the chase ending near Belmont.
