The Government is setting up a new agency to fast-track outstanding residential insurance claims in Christchurch.

The Greater Christchurch Claims Resolution Service has been established to provide homeowners with a free, impartial pathway to settle their claims.

Minister Megan Woods says the agency will bring together fast-tracked claims handling, specialist engineering support, psychosocial support, and legal expertise to help resolve claims.

"More needs to be done to help people who have been stranded for years waiting for their claims to be resolved."
