The end could be in sight for Cantabrians still living in earthquake-ravaged homes.
The Canterbury Earthquakes Insurance Tribunal has started accepting claims this week, just weeks after it was passed by Parliament.
Christchurch-based insurance advocate Ali Jones, who has worked closely with lobby-group EQC Fix, says she has faith it'll be a fair and effective service.
"We just cannot have people spending their eighth winter in broken, mould infested homes. And if the Tribunal is going to help, then bring it on."
She says they're hoping this isn't just another layer of bureaucracy for people.Â
"I think what's important with the insurance tribunal is that it is effective, and in order to be effective, I think that it will have to show that it's impartial, that's the really important thing."
The Tribunal's formal opening ceremony will be held next Monday in Christchurch.
