One of the world's biggest banks hopes to boost our trade with China.

The Bank of China has become New Zealand's 25th registered bank today.

New Zealand chairman Chris Tremain hopes the bank's connections in China can help Kiwi businesses.

"If we are to achieve that target of 30 billion in reciprocal export it's going to take a lot of work and it's going to take networks on the ground in China and I think that the bank, in particular, brings those opportunities."

The Bank of China was a major proponent of direct exchange between the New Zealand dollar and the yuan renminbi, which began in March.
